Lessons From My Garden About Patience and Growth

If you've read some of my other blog posts, you know I'm not exactly a gardening expert.

Last year had a few wins, but it also had plenty of plants that didn't grow the way I hoped. Some struggled. Some never really got started. And some taught me that gardening involves a lot more patience than I naturally have.

But maybe that's why I keep coming back to it.

One of the biggest lessons gardening has taught me is that growth takes time.

You can plant the seeds, water consistently, and do everything you're supposed to do, but you can't rush the results. The garden grows on its own timeline.

I think life works the same way.

We're often looking for quick progress, whether it's in our careers, relationships, health, or personal goals. But most meaningful growth happens slowly. Often so slowly that we don't notice it at first.

Gardening has also reminded me that not every season is a success story.

Some plants thrive. Others don't.

The same is true in homeownership. Not every project goes perfectly. Not every improvement turns out the way you expected. But each experience teaches you something and helps you create a home that fits your life a little better.

That's why gardening and homeownership feel so similar to me. Both require patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep showing up even when progress feels slow.

This year, I'm trying the garden again.

Not because I expect perfection, but because I've learned that growth rarely happens overnight.

Whether it's a garden, a home, or life itself, most good things are built one small step at a time
