The Day We Met: A Simple Beginning
It’s funny how some of the biggest moments in life don’t always feel like big moments when they’re happening.
There wasn’t some dramatic movie moment. No feeling that I had just met someone who would completely change my life.
It was just a birthday party.
Ryan and I met on July 4th, 2022, at his niece’s birthday party. I didn’t really know many people there, so I was kind of just figuring out where I fit in.
And then I started talking with Ryan.
What I remember most is that it felt easy.
He was easy to talk to. There wasn’t any pressure to be anything other than myself. We just ended up having a conversation, and before I knew it, we had spent a good amount of time talking.
At the time, I didn’t think much of it.
I didn’t leave that day thinking, “I just met the person I’m going to marry.”
It was just a good conversation with someone new.

Looking back now, it’s kind of funny because July 4th was never really my favorite holiday. I enjoyed it, but it was never a day that held a lot of meaning for me.
Now it does.
Now, when I think about July 4th, I think about the day a simple conversation started something I never expected.
I think that’s one of the interesting things about life. Sometimes ordinary days become meaningful later.
A random birthday party.
A conversation with someone you don’t know very well.
A moment that doesn’t seem important until you look back and realize it was the beginning of something.
Over time, that simple conversation became more.
We got to know each other. We built a relationship. We figured out how our lives fit together.
Now, years later, our life looks very different than it did that day. We have a home, a business, and August keeping us entertained on a daily basis.
But I still think about how it all started.
Not with some big, perfectly planned moment.
Just a conversation at a birthday party.
And maybe that’s what makes it special.
Some of the best parts of life begin quietly. You don’t always recognize the beginning while you’re living it.
Sometimes you just look back and realize, “I’m really glad I showed up that day.”
